WHO WILL WIN PSL SEASON 2 ?

hbl psl 2017

The PSL Pakistan Super League 2017 is scheduled to begin on Feb 9th 2017 in UAE. The opening ceremony and the first match will be played on Feb 9th with the final taking place in Lahore on March 7. The number of matches has been increased from 16 to 18. You can also get all the information on the PSL tickets for the second season here.

The PSL Draft for the second edition of the tournament was held on October 19 and all five teams announced their squads with most teams consisting of around 20 players from Pakistan and overseas.

A few of the players were retained from the previous season by teams while the others were picked afresh from the PSL Draft. There was also a transfer window in which teams like Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars exchanged players.

New Players like Eoin Morgan, Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine and Brendon McCullum had also agreed to getting themselves placed in the Draft and were picked up by respective teams during the Draft, while Chris Gayle was let go of by Lahore and selected by Karachi.

Alex Hales got a nod as a supplementary player, as did Anton Devcich while there were many experienced and young Pakistani players who got the nod too.

Misbah-ul-Haq will lead the defending champions Islamabad United yet again while Shahid Afridi handed over the captaincy of Peshawar Zalmi to Darren Sammy. Sarfaraz Ahmed will look to guide the Quetta Gladiators, while Sangakkara leads the Karachi Kings. Lahore Qalandars will be captained by Brendon McCullum.

Even bigger news is coming from the PSL stable is that the final of the next edition of the Pakistan Super League will be played in Lahore, Pakistan. The Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore will host the final according to PCB chief Najam Sethi.

The first ever edition of the Pakistan Super League T20 ended on February 23 with Islamabad United winning the title after defeating Quetta Gladiators in the final of the tournament.

The foundation for Islamabad’s victory in the final was laid by Andre Russell’s three-wicket haul before Dwayne Smith and Brad Haddin smashed fifties to guide the side towards their chase of 175 against Quetta Gladiators.

Ahmed Shehzad and Kumar Sangakkara had hit fifties of their own in the final for the Gladiators, and at one stage would have harboured thoughts for a win after piling up 174 in a pressure final.

Earlier, the Quetta Gladiators made the final by winning their only playoff match against Peshawar Zalmi, edging Peshawar out by a run. This was followed by Islamabad overcoming the Karachi Kings by nine wickets, a chase of 115 that lasted just 14.2 overs for them.

Islambad were then slotted to take on the Zalmis in which they crushed their opponents yet again. Sharjeel Khan became the first centurion in the PSL T20 to steer his side to 176 for three in the 20 overs before the United saw Russell and Imran Khalid share seven wickets to bowl Peshawar out for 126.

Among the five sides, Lahore Qalandars faced the bitter end of the disappointment as they failed to qualify for the final four. Despite having a strong squad with names like Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo, they could win just two matches out of the possible eight.

The HBL PSL cricket league has put the cricket action from the country back on the map. Boasting of international players and a league like format, the tournament took place in three stages, which was played in Dubai and Sharjah. The teams representing five major cities – Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore took part in the competition.

Shoaib Malik Quits Karachi Kings

Shoaib-

DUBAI:Pakistani All rounder Shoaib Malik Quits Karachi Kings as Captian for the remainder of the Pakistan Super League. Ravi Bopara has been named as his successor.

Malik told the Karachi management that he was not able to focus on his cricket due to the captaincy duties, adding that he was happy to sit out as long as the team was winning. “End of the day the team is suffering. Hence I decided not to lead the team in the rest of the matches (this season). It is possible that I can concentrate more on my batting, bowling, fielding instead of handling so many things,” Malik said.

“I was struggling to focus on my own game. I’m hoping we put up a good show tomorrow and for the rest of the tournament.”

Malik pointed out that it was not the first time a stand-in captain had lead a team in the PSL. “Perhaps the team can get better. Maybe if someone else takes the (captaincy) responsibility then Karachi Kings could start winning. We have seen in the PSL that if a player has not played some matches then the team has started winning.”

Malik has scored 157 runs in eight matches, at an average of 26.16 and a strike rate of 113.76. Malik led Karachi to two group stage wins in eight games and qualified for the playoffs having finished in fourth place, ahead of Lahore Qalandars on a better head-to-head record.

Bopara is currently second on both the run-scoring and wicket-taking charts. In eight matches, he has scored 292 runs at an average of 58.40 and a strike rate of 137, behind only Umar Akmal’s competition tally of 335 runs. With the ball, Bopara has taken 11 wickets at an economy rate of 6.57.

Karachi Kings will play Islamabad United in the second qualifying final on February 20.

This Peshawar Zalmi vs Quetta Gladiators-1st Playoff, Pakistan Super League, 2016 Match is program begins on 21:00 PM PST.

The two teams distanced themselves from the rest of the chasing pack quite early in the group stages of the tournament and, barring an odd defeat, never looked back. Their reward – two shots at making the final.

The perks of winning the first qualifier are too good to miss out on. Not only does it ensure a direct path to Tuesday’s final, it also offers two extra days of rest – worth its weight in gold considering the other finalist will be playing three games in a span of four-five days.

Unlike Peshawar, Quetta weren’t supposed to be here, if the pre-tournament hullabaloo were to be believed. They were the so-called ‘outsiders’, who would have to punch above their weight to remain competitive. Yet, they were the first ones to secure play-offs berth. Despite not having anyone in the top-3 in either the batting or the bowling charts, Quetta thrived on various players putting their hands up in different situations to breeze through the groups stages. Interestingly, all six of their wins have come batting second. The one time they were put in to bat, by Zalmi, they collapsed to 66 for 9.

Shahid Afridi’s Zalmi, on the other hand, have been the tournament’s most-supported team. While Quetta had to prove predictions wrong, Peshawar had the pressure of living up to expectations, but they blasted their way into the play-offs riding on a potent bowling attack. Wahab Riaz tops the bowling charts with 13 wickets while the likes of Mohamad Asghar, Afridi, Shaun Tait and Junaid Khan have all been among the wickets.

PSL Vs IPL?

Is PSL superior to IPL?

The Pakistani version will have fewer teams because if anything can be learnt from IPL, it is that too much of something is never good. IPL has always had more than eight teams and by the time the tournament is about to end, most people tend to forget as to what happened a month back in the initial matches.

Thankfully, PSL will only have five teams — Islamabad, Quetta, Peshawar, Karachi, Lahore — and players are selected on the basis of their talent, not on the basis of their residence.

Unlike IPL, PSL comprise of just 24 matches, with each team playing the other twice. Therefore, the event will end in less than a month, making it simple, yet effective.

However, many fans of the game will be disappointed to know that a play-off will decide which team gets to play the final instead of the age-old semi-final format. The losing side of the first play-off will still have a go at a place in the final, thanks to the IPL-inspired format.

Bopara have thrusted Karachi Kings to 178

bopara

Bopara’s heroics have thrusted Karachi Kings to a total of 178. “Feel good at the moment. I know we haven’t put the results on the board, but we have played well. That’s T20 cricket. Hopefully we’ll defend this score. I feel 180 is par over here.” That’s his reaction to what transpired. He walked out after a decent platform had been laid. Took his time early on and just exploded towards the end to become the tournament’s leading run-getter so far. Lahore were very generous with their fielding efforts with catches being put down left, right and centre. Can they make up for all those blunders with the bat?

Sharjeel, Watson fire as United down Qalandars by eight wickets

watson

SHARJAH: Openers Sharjeel Khan and Shane Watson scored impressive half-centuries as Islamabad United down Lahore Qalandars by eight wickets at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

In pursuit of Qalandars’ 166-6, United made 169 for the loss of two wickets courtesy a quick-fire and unbeaten 43-ball 79 by Khan.

Khan hit five 4s and seven 6s in his blistering knock.

The hard-hitting Pakistan national was accompanied by Watson, who scored 79 off 47 balls. Watson’s innings included four 4s and seven 6s.

For Qalandars, only Ehsan Adil managed to provide his team with a couple of breakthroughs. He dismissed Watson in the 14th over when United had already scored 153 runs and were nearing in on the chase, and returned to dismiss Andre Russell for two in the 16th over.

Qalandars’ score of 166 was mainly due to a late assault by Mohammad Rizwan. He scored a 27-ball fifty (not out) and his innings included five 4s and three 6s.

The in-form batsman Umar Akmal (23 off 23) and Naved Yasin (25 off 28) had recovered Qalandars innings after United’s pace spearhead Mohammad Sami threatened to expose a weak link in their batting line-up by striking twice earlier in the game.

Sami clean bowled Cameron Delport (three) on the first delivery of his spell, and later got Qalandars’ skipper Azhar Ali trapped leg before on 27.

For United, Rumman Raees, Imran Khalid and Saeed Ajmal took one wicket each.

Dwayne Bravo coming in to bat at number five looked dangerous after scoring a quick 26 on 17 balls, but ran himself out in search for a quick single.

Earlier, United had won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Shane Watson was in lead for United after Misbah-ul-Haq failed to recover from his injury while Qalandars once again missed the services of master blaster Chris Gayle.

The Sharjah track was tipped to produce plenty of runs after Dubai proved to be a happy hunting ground for bowlers in the first eight matches.

Islamabad United set up a good start

shajeel“PCB , Are you looking at Sharjeel Khan!!!”Sharjeel and Watson are Islamabad’s openers where sharjeel khan has provided a great start to Islamabad united ,who are in a very good condition to to fight and win a battle.Earlier shajeel was dropped from T20 World Cup 2016 and Asia cup squad.but maybe he is too late to perform , He also smashed the longest six of PSL as well.Good luck Shajeel for his next performances

Rizwan’s late assault lifts Lahore Qalandars

ook

Mohammad Rizwan of Lahore Qalandars hit a 27-ball fifty on Wednesday to lift his team’s total to 166-6 against Islamabad United at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Rizwan’s unbeaten innings included five 4s and three 6s.

Earlier, in-form batsman Umar Akmal (23 off 23) and Naved Yasin (25 off 28) recovered Qalandars after United’s pace spearhead Mohammad Sami threatened to expose a weak link in their batting line-up by striking twice earlier in the game.

Sami clean bowled Cameron Delport (three) on the first delivery of his spell, and later got Qalandars captain Azhar Ali trapped leg before on 27.

Dwayne Bravo coming in to bat at number five looked dangerous after scoring a quickfire 26 on 17 balls, but ran himself out in search for a quick single.

United had won the toss and elected to field first. Shane Watson was in lead for United after Misbah-ul-Haq failed to recover from his injury while Qalandars once again missed the services of master blaster Chris Gayle.

The Sharjah track has been tipped to produce plenty of runs after Dubai proved to be a happy hunting ground for bowlers in the first eight matches.

Qalandars and United have registered one win each after struggling to get going in the PSL.

Lahore, after losing their first two matches by big margins, came back strongly on Monday, beating Quetta Gladiators by 63 runs courtesy a blistering 95-run knock from Pakistan international Umar Akmal.

The win provided the Qalandars with much needed confidence they require to progress in the tournament and have a chance to win it.

Misbah-ul-Haq-led Islamabad United beat Karachi Kings in a nail-biting encounter on Sunday, after Saeed Ajmal took three wickets for the capital’s franchise — rescuing the campaign which started with losses against Quetta and Peshawar.

After Match Interview from Shahzad, Malik and Surfraz

PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Ahmed Shehzad

Sarfraz Ahmed: I want to give credit to the bowlers and Shehzad played brilliantly. The way our bowlers bowled gave us the upper hand. We always look to take wickets up front and our batting line-up is good.

Malik: Credit to Shehzad for playing well. We will try to comeback in the next match. You see ups and downs in your career and you need to get back to winning ways. We are playing Islamabad tomorrow. We will discuss and come up with fresh ideas. If you’re batting first, it is a bit tough for the batters. It is a bit on the slower side when you bat first. However, Wright and Shehzad batted brilliantly, today.

Ahmed Shehzad: I was not hitting the ball as well as I wanted to do in the last few months, but I worked hard. I want to thank my family and the team. I was backing myself today and I always want to score runs. Today, I found the gaps in the field. It is cricket, as sometimes you score runs and on other occasions, you have to battle hard. I kept working hard on my game. Pietersen is a wonderful player and I am learning a lot from him. Luke Wright is also a wonderful guy and is batting well.

Ahmed Shehzad unfurled a series of splendid shots as Quetta Gladiators made a light work of the chase on a tricky wicket to bat on. Shehzad was particularly severe on the spinners by cracking some eye-catching lofted shots. Kevin Pietersen and Luke Wright also played handy knocks. Earlier, Malik’s enterprising innings had taken Karachi Kings to a competitive total. Anwar Ali and Nabi picked up a couple of scalps each for Quetta.
